USING PAGEKIND

Know what to expect.

A free Windows PDF editor, with choices you can check before you install.

Release 1.1.20 · Updated 10 October 2026

Use the PDF tools without an account or payment.

Supported PDF text editing, OCR, form filling and page tools are free. Pagekind does not add a watermark or ask for a card or subscription. Your documents are processed on your computer, with no Pagekind document-upload service.

Table export, CSV form fill and watched-folder automation are the three separate tools tied to optional connection sharing. They unlock for 180 days when sharing is turned on and lock again as soon as it is turned off. The other PDF tools work with sharing off.

Check your Windows setup.

Pagekind needs Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit, and administrator permission to install for all users. OCR also needs an installed Windows recognition language. This is an unsigned early-access release: Windows or your browser may warn or block setup.

Compare your installer filename and checksum, and read the Windows prompts. A matching checksum checks file identity; it does not establish publisher identity or safety. Leave Windows protections on. If a managed device refuses installation, contact its administrator.

On the Components page, Optional connection sharing (includes WinDivert) starts unchecked. Leave it unchecked to install the basic PDF tools without the sharing files. To add it later, follow the steps for your existing installation. Selecting the component still leaves sharing off until you separately accept the full notice in Pagekind.

On an existing installation, skipping that component does not remove earlier sharing software. If Setup detects existing sharing files, a service or a task, or cannot establish that they are absent, it stops without changing the existing installation. Follow the message and contact support about removing the earlier component before retrying. Use the existing Pagekind uninstaller when removal is needed; do not manually delete driver or service files.

Add the optional component to your existing copy.

  1. Save your work and close Pagekind. Save a copy of any changes, then close all Pagekind windows.
  2. Identify the folder you already use. Check your existing Pagekind shortcut’s Properties → Target for the folder containing Pagekind.exe. If you cannot identify the correct copy, contact support before continuing.
  3. Rerun the official installer in that same folder. Select Optional connection sharing (includes WinDivert). On the install-location page, choose the exact existing folder. A prefilled location may differ from a custom folder you used earlier. Do not choose a second folder to add files to your existing copy.
  4. Reopen the updated copy. After Setup finishes, open Pagekind from that folder or its matching shortcut. Choose Tools → Connection sharing, read the full notice and make your separate choice.

Adding the component’s files does not turn sharing on. The PDF tools still work with sharing off. Keep Windows protections on; do not manually move or delete sharing files.

Sharing is a separate decision.

Connection sharing starts off. Before enabling it, Pagekind presents a separate notice and asks you to confirm that you are at least 18 and in the United States. You need administrator access and permission to use the connection this way.

When enabled, the component forwards third-party internet traffic through your public IP address, including while Pagekind is closed. This can affect bandwidth, IP reputation and your internet-provider terms. Turn sharing off in Pagekind and check the reported status; closing the PDF window alone does not stop it. The three linked tools lock when sharing is off.

Read the full sharing notice, data use and retention before deciding. Installing Pagekind or accepting website cookies does not consent to connection sharing.

If a sharing attempt does not finish.

Your saved permission and the component’s reported status are separate. A failed attempt can leave your choice saved, or sharing partly configured or running. Do not assume an error means sharing is off.

  1. Open Tools → Connection sharing. From an activation result, Open connection sharing status opens the same screen. Check the earlier problem and latest result.
  2. Review the full current notice again. If permission is already on and retry is available, confirm the eligibility and agreement boxes, then choose Agree and retry connection sharing. Each attempt needs a fresh agreement; retry never starts by itself.
  3. Read the result and check reported status. A completed setup check and start request do not confirm a live connection. Retry keeps your original saved consent date and premium dates; it does not start a new 180-day period.

You can choose Turn permission off on the same screen. If stopping is incomplete or cannot be confirmed, follow the displayed message and check status again; closing Pagekind is not a stop action. Do not manually delete service, task or driver files.

If retry is unavailable or the problem remains, contact support with the displayed message. Free PDF tools remain available, and you can continue using them without another sharing attempt.

Keep control of basic reports.

For eligible fresh interactive installations, Setup offers Basic setup and app-step reports, initially selected after a notice. These reports help us find installation problems. They contain a random journey ID, source label, version and measured setup/app steps, including sharing choices. They do not contain PDFs or filenames.

Clear the Setup checkbox to stop reports from that setup and prevent it from enabling fresh app reporting. Previously saved app choices stay saved; use About to change them. Reporting does not unlock PDF tools or enable sharing. Website ad measurement has its own optional choice in Cookie settings.

Read exactly what is reported, the controls and retention.

Start with one small job.

Pagekind no longer opens a connection-sharing offer when you launch it. Home keeps your free PDF actions ready; an optional invitation remains for eligible installations with the sharing component. You can review sharing later from that invitation or when you choose a sharing-linked tool. Your separate agreement is still required.

Prefer a sample first? In Pagekind 1.1.19, choose Try a practice PDF on an empty Home screen to create a local text example and open the editor. Follow the practice steps, or use the guided text and picture files on that page. Finish or check your current creation draft before starting the built-in sample.

  1. After Setup finishes, open Pagekind from the Windows Start menu and choose Open PDF.
  2. Try a supported text correction, make a scan searchable or fill a supported form.
  3. Choose Save a copy with a new filename and inspect the result. Use the saved location to find your copy. Keep your original.

Not every PDF layout, font or form is supported. OCR can mistake words and does not make the printed image directly editable. Use documents you are authorized to work with and review results before relying on them. Read the release limitations.

Looking for a phrase in a longer PDF? Use Find, select a result, then choose Edit selected match. When the result maps to one supported editable text run, Pagekind opens the editor with that matching text selected. Nothing is replaced until you type. If the match is ambiguous, spans separate text runs or is not editable, keep using the result to navigate and choose a supported line manually. After changing the PDF, run Find again for current results.

Need a font that is not installed? Choose a supported local font file for an existing line.

Open and inspect the copy you saved.

After a successful Save a copy in Pagekind 1.1.19, the document workspace shows Last saved copy and its full location. Select the path, or choose Copy path to put that location on your clipboard. Copy path does not open the file or its folder.

Choose Open saved copy to check and open that saved file in another Pagekind tab. Your working tab and any later changes stay available. The action does not save those later changes into the earlier copy; save again when you want to include them.

If the file has moved, is missing or no longer matches the copy you saved, opening stops with an explanation. A protected copy may ask for its password. Canceling or an unsuccessful opening keeps your working document. This checked opening supports copies up to 512 MiB; use Open PDF for larger files.

The saved location belongs to that open document tab and disappears when you close the tab or app; it is not a saved-file history. A canceled or failed save does not replace the last confirmed location.

Get help without sending your PDF.

Email [email protected] with your Windows version, the installer filename and the wording of the message you see. A description is enough to start; do not send passwords or confidential PDFs. If you choose to send a file later, use a synthetic or redacted example.

To remove Pagekind, use Windows Settings → Apps → Installed apps → Pagekind → Uninstall, or its Start-menu uninstall entry. Saved PDFs, preferences and recovery data are preserved. Read about retained local and server records.
