Start with your working copy.
Pagekind keeps applied edits in a local working document, separate from the PDF you opened. Undo and Redo travel through those applied changes. Save a copy creates a separate file with your chosen name; it protects your original and refuses to replace an existing file.
A live text or form draft may still be waiting to apply. If the app stops at that point, the latest characters might not be in the recovered document. Review the content before sharing it.
Recover after an interruption.
- Reopen Pagekind. Choose Recover, or press Ctrl+K and search for “recover”.
- Select the working document you need. In the 0.65.0 preview, check the original folder shown below its name, especially when several files share a name. Hover over the recovery button for the full original path. Documents still open in another Pagekind window stay with that window.
- If the PDF is protected, enter its password. Pagekind does not keep that password in the recovery record.
- Check your applied edits and use Undo or Redo if needed. Several recovered documents can stay open in separate tabs.
A document started in Pagekind says New PDF created in Pagekind instead of showing an original folder. Several new PDFs can still have the same name, so check the pages after reopening. A moved or missing original does not prevent recovery when its working copy is available.
Place new words before relying on recovery.
Add text and Annotate keep unplaced words and settings while their PDF stays open. These values are not part of the PDF, a saved copy or recovery. Drag on the page to place them, then save a copy. Closing asks before discarding unplaced changes; choose to keep working if you still need them. See how to place and save new text.
Recover recorded review decisions.
Record decision adds a state to your working PDF and its undo history. Recovery reads the actual workspace after an interruption; it does not record your choice again. An unavailable operation result protects the workspace until its outcome can be established. Save a copy keeps recorded decisions in a PDF file.
A label and choice that have not been recorded stay only in the open window during navigation. Closing discards those unrecorded choices. They are separate from the recoverable reply drafts below.
Return to a kept correction.
Correct selected reply keeps your new words, original reply text, author label and short conversation context locally. Closing offers keep, discard or cancel. Recover returns to the exact correction without applying it. It remains separate from any new-reply draft.
Apply reply correction changes the working PDF and consumes that matching draft. An interrupted result is checked before another change is allowed. Newer words stay as another correction. A stale correction cannot move to another reply; Undo can restore the PDF version it belongs to. Save a copy retains applied changes.
Reply removal changes the current comment list, while earlier content remains in PDF revisions and Undo history. Recovery and Undo are not confidential-content erasure tools.
Return to a kept reply.
Reply drafts are kept separately from applied PDF edits. Wait for Reply draft kept locally, or choose Keep draft now. Closing that document offers keep, discard or cancel. Choosing keep retains the workspace in Recover, even if the PDF itself has no changes.
Recover restores the reply text, display name and parent context. Check the parent before choosing Post reply. If the PDF changed after the draft began, select a current conversation and explicitly attach the draft to it. A recovered draft is never posted automatically; document Undo and Redo do not silently remove it.
If a posting response was interrupted, recovery uses the actual saved state to distinguish a kept draft from a completed reply. A result that cannot be confirmed keeps the workspace protected. Reply drafts are local plain text; characters whose draft update had not completed may remain only in the open window.
Continue a kept OCR word review.
In Recover, find Kept OCR word reviews and choose Continue word review. Enter the PDF password if requested. The original scan opens in its own tab with the corrections you kept. Other open documents remain available.
Compare the words with the scan, then choose Apply corrections when ready. An interrupted application is checked before another edit proceeds. If it already finished, recovery reopens that actual working PDF without applying the corrections a second time.
Manage completed review lets you return to a completed review or discard its kept scan and words. If its working PDF has already been closed, use your saved copy. Discarding the review leaves PDFs in your document tabs and saved files alone. Recover offers a retry when a discarded local scan could not be removed.
Kept OCR words are protected for the current Windows account and do not include the PDF password. They are local working records, not a portable backup. Characters whose keep operation had not finished may still have been only in the open window.
Find out whether saving finished.
If a save response was lost, Pagekind checks the actual copy against the working document. A complete matching file can be confirmed without rewriting it. The recovery message shows that verified file’s location.
If the previous copy cannot be confirmed, keep the recovered document, review its contents and save with a new filename. A different file occupying the old name stays untouched. You can cancel before a copy is published; a complete success response still counts if Cancel arrives just after saving finishes.
Keep the right copy.
After saving, open the file you intend to use and review it. Saved copies retain the PDF’s password protection. Closing a document normally removes its temporary editing workspace; choosing to keep a reply draft retains that workspace in Recover; uninstalling Pagekind preserves recoverable work.

Return to a kept comment import.
When you keep an import review while closing a document, Recover can reopen that workspace. Choose Comments, expand Exchange comments, then Review kept import. Read the incoming words and check every affected receiving page before Apply. Recovery never imports comments automatically. The kept packet is a local copy; edits to the external XFDF cannot change it. If the receiving PDF has changed, discard the old review and inspect the file again. Pagekind is an unsigned engineering preview. Recovery checks run locally and do not upload your PDFs. They cover applied work and verifiable outputs, not every unfinished draft or physical disk failure. Temporary PDF content can remain after an abrupt stop until cleanup.
